Logos

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

"Word:" Greek-Logos. Expression of thought. Romans, Jews and Greeks of John's time understood perfectly what this meant. It also means order or reason, and is the basis for our familiar term, logical. Very early, this term was used to refer to the principle which maintains order in the world.

Logos is from lego; to speak, declare or say. Jesus is the manifestation of the invisible God, like spoken word is to thought. Jesus is the Word. "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him." John 1:18

That's Who Jesus is. When did this Logos exist and do whatever it was He did?

"In the beginning was the Word....He was in the beginning with God." Before there was anything, there was a person. John must have had a reason for starting his gospel with these familiar words. He made it absolutely clear that Jesus is eternal God. John stressed the deity and eternity of Jesus. To give these essential truths the most impact, he used the first words of the first verse of the first book of the Old Testament, which looks back into eternity. What do we find back there? "In the beginning, God." The same God who was "in the beginning" of Genesis "became flesh and dwelt among us" in the fullness of time. "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM." John 8:58

John 1:3-5 tells us what is so significant about Jesus. John identifies Him as the Creator, Animator and Illuminator. He created everything that exists, ever did exist, ever will exist, including Satan and the angels who rebelled against Him; Adam and his offspring who have rebelled against Him, the very tree upon which He was crucified. "All things have been created by Him." Colossians 1:16 The Father is the designer and planner, and the Son is the executor of the plan of God. If it exists, John says, Jesus created it. He is the Creator. "All things came into being by Him...In Him was life... the life was the light of men." I Corinthians 8:6

He made us. He gives us physical life and spiritual life, which is fellowship with the Father. He gives us "light" which is the ability to comprehend God's Will and God's Way.

Only He can.
