Name: The Essence of God

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

I John 5:13-15

‎"Name:" character; His essence. Essence of God: Sovereignty, Righteousness, Justice, Love, Eternal Life, Omniscience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence, Veracity, Immutability. "Name:" authority; the One in charge. Creator and redeemer. Messiah, Savior, Wonderful Counceller, Mighty God (El Shaddai), Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Matthew 1:21,"She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." (Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means the LORD saves.) So, to "believe in the name of the Son of God" means you realize Who He is. It means you trust in His character as the only Savior, on whom your eternal life depends. It means you completely rely on His authority, not only to hear your prayers, but to grant what you have asked, according to His will. If you are in fellowship with God, you understand His will by learning His Word. When you understand His will, your own will is adjusted to His best for you, or for whatever situation you are praying about. You are expressing agreement with Him about life, truth, obedience and consequences. Prayer is an act of aligning our own viewpoint with that of God. It gives us orientation to His perfect plan for us. When we are oriented, we ask according to His will. He wants us to ask. He loves to answer. That is our dialogue with Him as we grow in grace. That is our evidence of our own eternal life.
