Where Is My Treasure?

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Luke 12:22-34

The message here is unmistakable. God loves His creation. God has provided for every need in His creation. Our anxiety about our circumstances will not change those circumstances. Our attitude adjustment about Whose we are will change how we deal with our circumstances.

Our Father knows exactly what we need and has provided for that need to be fulfilled at exactly the right time, because it pleases Him. We parents understand this perfectly. We are always pleased to provide for our children, even the things they don't know they need. Our priority must be to focus on God and His Word and His plan. Oriented to God's perfect plan, we can be relaxed about our personal needs. We will be fed. We will be clothed. Even Solomon wasn't decked out like the wildflowers, which have no consciousness of any need! First things first: Seek His Kingdom. He will not allow you to be in need.

By making God's Word and will our priority, we are amassing treasure in heaven. Nobody can take that away. There can be no deterioration or thievery of the eternal reward awaiting the child of God. It is a fact of human nature that whatever we value the most will occupy our heart (thinking part of the mind). People plan for and orient their lives to whatever is most important to them. If your priority is Bible Doctrine, that very doctrine will stabilize your soul. Then you can deal with the details you face in life with the mind of Christ. There is no greater council or comfort than knowing that no matter what, I am forever IN HIM.
