Hold the Line

Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:13-14

Here it is again, Timothy. HOLD THE LINE with the solid doctrine you've learned from Paul. Absolute Truth is your standard, as represented by Jesus Christ and appropriated by our faith in Him. His love is perfect and eternal. He has entrusted the treasure of His Gospel to you, an earthen vessel, to be safeguarded with the help of God the Holy Spirit, because evil abounds and will distort that message in ways that we cannot anticipate. Repeat: we cannot anticipate all the distortions. Therefore, we must learn the Truth (Bible Doctrine), commit that Truth to our memory banks, absorb it, practice it, teach it, KNOW it. Then, any distortion will be immediately recognized as false doctrine and eliminated from our lives. Don't be suckered by sweet sounding platitudes, or distracted by "esoteric" knowledge. If what you read, see or hear contradicts the written Word of God, it is false! When you know the real, you will not be taken in by the fake. Jesus' finished work is the real. All other "ways to God" are fake. That's the standard.
