Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:16-17


Rules about eating and drinking, festivals, New Moon, Sabbath, all had meaning and purpose before Jesus came. They were designed to teach God's people about norms and standards, about the Savior Who was to come, about why we needed a savior. Each religious festival was a commemoration of an event in the history of Israel, or illustrated a major coming event in the fulfullment of God's plan. The Sabbath day memorializes God's rest after He had completed the creation, and our perfect rest in all He has provided. Well, Jesus CAME! The reality is with us. Remember that IOU He cancelled? Relax in the knowledge of those wonderful old traditions, but do not allow anyone to make them your standards for the Christian Way of Life. Our Sabbath is every moment of every day, because we rest completely in the finished work of our Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ.
