For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:19-20
God the Father made the plan...for God the Son to execute...re-establishing the family relationship that had been broken in the garden. When Adam disobeyed, it built a wall of separation between humanity and God. "All things" were affected by this separation. Jesus came to reconcile humanity to the Father, by His own shed human blood. (Hebrews 9:22 without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.) The Blood of Christ is a technical term, meaning Jesus' agonizing separation from the Father as He was judged for our sins on the cross. "My God (Father), My God (Spirit), why have You forsaken Me?" The Father and Spirit had to forsake Him, because God can have nothing to do with sin, and He became our sin! Therein, brethren, is our peace. Jesus is fully God, Who cannot die, and fully man, who had to die, in order to bring us back where we belong. But now He lives! It is finished!
