Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. I John 2:15-17
"world"- kosmos. The satanic system under which the civilizations of the earth are organized. It means "order or arrangement." Like cosmetics. Its operating principles are force, greed, selfishness, ambition and pleasure. These characteristics are not compatible with the Christian Way of Life. Politics, religion, lasciviousness and phony intellectualism are the identifying manifestations of one who loves the kosmos. "Lust of the flesh:" obviously, sexual preoccupation, as well as all other physical pleasures that take priority in one's life. "Lust of the eyes:" constant need for entertainment and thrill-seeking. Consuming desire to own and control beautiful, fascinating objects and people. "Pride of Life:" Vainglory. Boasting of one's achievements or possessions. These affections and practices are not from God. They are from the world's influence on our human nature which is the Old Sin Nature. Sensuality, emotionalism and arrogance distract us from our true spiritual kinship with our Lord. Our aging and deteriorating physical bodies should teach us that whatever we are in the flesh is temporary. Even the natural desires of our flesh eventually decline and die. Our tour of duty here is very short, in the grand scheme of things. Those who live forever are the ones who do the will of God. "Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." John 6:29
