Spiritual Milk

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. I Peter 2:1-3

Peter is addressing gentile believers here, who have been saved but are still living among hostile pagans, who despise everything they believe in. His previous assurances of their newness and incorruptibility IN CHRIST should be comforting, but he further admonishes them not to succumb to their "old man" nature. We have a higher purpose, brethren, and must not allow ourselves to be distracted and neutralized by our own perversions, trickery, false pretenses or harmful gossip against our fellow man. There is a much more productive and fulfilling way of life for believers as we await our redemption. Feed on the milk of God's Word. That is our spiritual food, and the only means of growth in grace. Fellowship is good, but it is not food. Music is nice, but will not grow us up. Prayer is necessary for comfort, clarity and guidance, but that comfort and guidance is going to come through His Written Word! Our Lord, in his unfathomable grace, has seen fit to provide us with the timeless revelation of Himself, the history of His people, the means of our own eternal salvation, and the prophecy of our future with Him. Oh, how He loves you and me! We know, because the Bible tells us so. Take it in!
