Undeserved Suffering

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. I Peter 2:21-23

The "this" to which we were called is undeserved suffering. Christians are often objects of hate, ridicule, anger, slander, misunderstanding of our purpose. Especially these days, among the politically crazed strife mongers. Even well-meaning Christians occasionally err in judgment and behavior, and are justly disciplined by the Father. Sometimes, tho, the suffering is completely undeserved, because we are accurately representing our Lord in everything we say and do, and are vilified for it. Jesus didn't debate. He stated. He didn't argue, he informed. When they insulted Him, he gave them the truth and moved on. He had a mission and a message for those who would accept it. Those who reject Him were and are free to do so. The ultimate judge is the One Who anointed Him to do this work. That's our judge, too. We do not have do defend ourselves against the world's hatred. It is God who has called us to this mission. If God be for us, who can be against us?
