Seducers

With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness. 2 Peter 2:14-15

The truth is, friends and fellow pilgrims, I would rather not post these particular scriptures and comments, but here they are. It would be cowardly of me to skip over them in the daily commentary. In this whole chapter dealing with false teachers, Peter just opens up about how God deals with those who are not afraid to distort His Word and His perfect plan of grace. Angels sinned and were incarcerated. The great flood destroyed all but faithful Noah and his family and the animals God wanted to preserve. The fire from heaven destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, sparing only Lot and his family, because they were believers. This kind of judgment is brought on those who arrogantly reject the provision of God and despise His authority. Balaam is a special case (Numbers 22), recorded for us because he is an example of one who believes in God, but loves money so much that he is willing to curse God's people for gain. He didn't get away with it, of course, but what gall! What blind arrogance, to be that kind of a traitor, for money! Believers who are enticed by their lust patterns often do think they are so special God will allow an exception in their case. No exceptions, brethren. Disobedience brings divine discipline, sometimes even unto death, on the believer who rebels against the direct will of God. We are without excuse. I Samuel 15:23 "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king." This was Samuel's pronouncement of discipline on King Saul, another disobedient believer. Yes, God is Love. He is also Sovereignty, Righteousness and Justice. You don't take liberties with His perfect plan of grace. Big mistake.
